Welcome to day 4 of a 30-day tribute to the history of Duluth's favorite April 4 - The Eponymous CD Bone Appetit recorded their first CD in their hillside basement in the Winter of 2000. Between parties it seemed like a good way to keep warm playing/practicing, but also gave the band a sense of accomplishment that they just didn't get from smoking and playing GoldenEye on the Nintendo 64 (fuck you Hot Rod and your damn Helicopter Pilot!). The cover of the album featured an actual photo of Hot Rod as a young child, reveling in the spirit of Halloween. The recording itself consisted of the only four originals the band had and four popular covers from their recent live shows (plus a special bonus track). Just so there was no confusion, the band did think to credit the original songwriters...less Tommy James and his Shondells came a knockin' with a royalties score to settle. It is rumored that only 12 of these discs were every made, and to own one now would be quite a rarity. Not even the memebers of Bone Appetit have one of these original CDs. Sadly, several people's car CD players were apparently "ruined" by the sticker on the top of this disc and they could never again play anything in their cars except for Bone Appetit. This is also the very recording that was included in the "press kit" that scored Bone Appetit their first show outside the basement at Homegrown "2" and inspired the Ripsaw preview found on this page. Here for the first time are all those original tracks, free for the downloading:
*At the time, the band found Deep Blue Something's "Breakfast At Tiffany's" one of the most vapid pop songs ever written (this coming from 4-song wunderkinds), and in retaliation a bad cover version was deemed necessary. |
